January 2, 1870 --- March 22, 1953

Mrs. Lizzie Anderson Lonning was born in Haugesund, Norway, on January 2, 1870. She passed away after a lingering illness on March 22, 1953 having reached the age of 83 years, 2 months and 20 days. She had been a patient at the Waukon hospital, where her death occurred, for over three months.

She came to this country with her parents when she was four years of age. They settled on a farm southwest of Thor, Iowa. She was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith near Thor. She married Ben Lonning in Eagle Grove, Iowa, on September 23 [22], 1890 and to this union fourteen children were born, twelve of whom survive. When first married they lived near Holmes from there they lived in various places in Iowa, except 5 years, they live in Wyoming. Remainder of the years was spent in Thor outside of the last eight years in Eagle Grove. All of these years she was affiliated with the Lutheran church except the five years in Wyoming they belonged to the Presbyterian church. She is now a member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church.

She was preceded in death by two children, in 1918, her son Bert was killed in action in July during the first world war; and Ruby also passed away in October of the same year. A brother John and two sisters Gertie and Annie also preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her passing twelve children: Dr. Edwin Lonning of Sacramento, Calif., Henry Lonning of Waukon, Iowa, Mrs. Carrie Nelson of New Richland, Minn., Dr. Alfred Lonning of Milwaukee, Wis., Lennie Lonning of Waukon, Iowa, Delmar Lonning of Clarion, Mrs. Gladys Brownell of Fayette, Iowa, Mrs. Sylvia Opheim of Waukon, Iowa, Mrs. Beulah Moon of Denver, Colo., Dewey Helen Marshall of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Verna Wikre of Boxholm, Iowa, and Mrs. Fern Kizer [Kizar] of Eagle Grove. She also has two sisters, Mrs. Cora Lenning on Des Moines and Mrs. Mollie Cramblet of Iowa City, two brothers, Halvor Anderson of Humboldt and Lewis Anderson of Long Beach, Calif. Thirty grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Thursday, March 26, 1953 at the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church. Rev. Kenneth R. Torvik officiated. Internment was held on the family lot in Rose Hill cemetery, Eagle Grove.
