BEN LONNING DIES

THOR — Word has been received here of the death of Ben Lonning a former longtime resident of the Thor community, at his home at New Richland, Minn., Mr. Lonning operated the creamery here for many years. He was a cousin of Lars Larson of Thor.

Funeral services and burial will be at Eagle Grove Tuesday afternoon.

Funeral Held For Former Thor Man

Funeral services for a former Thor resident Ben Lonning were held here Tuesday afternoon at the Sacquety Funeral Chapel.

Mr. Lonning, 90, died Friday at Albert Lea, Minn. He had been residing with a daughter Mrs. A. K. Nelson at New Richland, Minn., for over a year.

The Rev. J. C. Walledon of New Richland officiated at the services and burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.

Mr. Lonning is survived by 12 children: Mrs. A. K. Nelson of New Richland, Minn.; Mrs. Harry Barnell [Brownell], Fayette, Mrs. Selmer Opheim and Lennie Lonning of Waukon, Mrs. Harold Moon and Mrs. Warren Milsap, Denver, Colo; Mrs. Fern Kizer [Kizar], Eagle Grove; Mrs. Ted Wickre, Boxholm; Dr. Edwin Lonning, Sacramento, Calif.; Henry Lonning of Fredonia, Ariz.; Dr. Alfred Lonning, Milwaukee, Wis.; and Delmar Lonning of Clarion.

Obituary

Ben E. Lonning was born in Stavanger, Norway, Jan. 31, 1869 and came to this country at the age of 14. He lived with his uncle Martin Norstad until he reached manhood. He was united in marriage to Lizzie Anderson and to this union 14 children were born: Edwin of Sacramento, Calif.; Henry of Phoenix, Ariz.; Carrie, Mrs. A. K. Nelson of New Richland, Minn.; Alfred of Milwaukee, Wis.; Lennie of Waukon; Gladys, Mrs. Harold Brownell, of Fayette: Delmar of Clarion; Sylvia, Mrs. Selmer Opheim, of Waukon; Buelah [Beulah], Mrs. Harold Moone [Moon], of Denver, Colo.; Helen, Mrs. Warren Millsap of Denver, Colo.; Verna, Mrs. Ted Wikre of Boxholm; Mrs. Fern Kizar of Eagle Grove; and a son, Bert and a daughter, Ruby, who passed away in 1918.

Mr. Lonning and his family had lived most of the time in and around Thor.

His wife, Lizzie, preceded him in death six years ago on March 22, 1953. Ben was the oldest of 7 brothers and sisters who have all preceded him in death.

He had been in very good health all of his life. The last few years he made his home with his daughter, Gladys at Fayette and Carrie at New Richland, Minn. The last month his health started to fail and he passed away in the doctors office in Albert Lea, Minn., at the age of 90 years and 27 days.

He also leaves to mourn his death 32 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held March 3rd at the Sacquety Chapel, Eagle Grove, Rev. J. C. Walledon of New Richland, Minn., officiated. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
