Alvin Lonning dies June 13

Alvin E. Lonning, 76, died Sunday at his home following several month's illness. He had been confined to a hospital and his home since late 1975 when he suffered injuries in an accident and his hip was broken.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Arlene of Humboldt, and one son, James, of St. Charles, Mo.; two grandchildren; four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were Wednesday afternoon in the Samuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Orville Sanderson officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Formerly of Thor, for many years he was a painting contractor in Eagle Grove and he and his wife made their home here since their marriage in 1923.

He was a member of the Thor American Legion Post.

Obituary

Alvin E. Lonning was born May 31, 1900 at Thor, Iowa, the son of Enoch and Helena Knutson Lonning.

He attended school in Thor, later moving to Eagle Grove where he spent his adult life as a painting contractor and decorator. He served in the Army during World War I.

On October 25, 1923 he was united in marriage to Esther Falk at Webster City.

Mr. Lonning had been in failing health since an accident suffered in 1975, having been confined to his home since that time. He died at his home at the age of 76 years and 13 days, on June 13.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter, A. Arlene Lonning of Humboldt; one son, James C. Lonning of St. Charles, Mo.; and two grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers: Edgar of Santa Ana, Calif.; Victor of Osage Beach, Mo.; Joseph of Battle Creek, Mich.; and Lester of Fort Dodge; one sister, Mrs. Frank DePuydt of Des Moines.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Orren, and three sisters, Ina Turnquist, Corolla Henderson and Mandy Lonning who died in infancy.

He was baptised at the Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor and was presently a member of the Samuel Lutheran Church. He was a longtime member of the Thor American Legion Post.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 16, at 2 p.m. in the Samuel Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, with Pastor Orville Sanderson officiating. Interment was made in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
