CASUALTY LIST OF U. S. OVERSEAS FORCE
The forty-names that appeared on the American casualty list announced by the War Department late yesterday. Three were killed in action, two, died of disease, two died of wounds, thirty-eight were severely and three were wounded slightly.
Total army casualties 6,108. No marine casualties were reported yesterday.

Private Bert E. Lonning, of Thor, was among those reported killed in action, his name appearing in the daily of Tuesday morning.

Bert Lonning, Thor, Killed In France
Bert Lonning of Thor, Iowa, killed in action in France July 21, was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lonning, of Thor. He was in the draft of September, 1917, from Billings, Montana, where he was staying at the time. He was twenty-two years of age, and had been wounded in action in May, 1918, and spent some time in a hospital. He recovered his health and was sent back to the front, and as stated was killed in action July 21. He is the second man from Humboldt county to fall in the Great Cause.
