Mons O. Monson was born to Ole and Aasa (Larsen) Monson at Rolland, Norway, near Bergen, on April 23, 1859. At this place he received his early schooling. When a young man he went to Bergen and was there employed in the office of the Consul Mohr.
In 1881, in company with his brother, Lars, he immigrated to the United States and settled near Bode, where he took up farming.
On July 4, 1886, he was united in marriage to Anna Mathilda Olson. To this union was born ten children.
He was Preceded in death by his daughter, Marie, in 1912 and by his wife in 1925.
He was again united in marriage on December 9, 1931, to Mrs. Maggie Pederson, who together with the following children mourn his death: Otto, of Redfield, S.D.; Albert, Arthur, Mrs. Ada Besch and Theodore of Bode; Lloyd, and Mrs. Grace Saxton of Barnum, Iowa; Mrs. Gladys Walkner of Pomeroy, Iowa; Mrs. Thelma Thompson of Detroit, MI and a brother Lars of Thompson, Iowa. Also fifteen grandchildren and a host of friends.
He became engaged in the mercantile business in Bode in 1892 and was thus engaged up to the time of his last illness, which occurred on January 3, 1936, and was confined to his home until the time of his death, April 1, 1936.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, April 4th at 1:00 p.m. from the home at Bode and from the Saint Olaf church at 1:30 p.m., Rev. E. C. Haavik, officiating.
Interment was made in St. Olaf Cemetery. Funeral in charge of R.A. Skaugstad of Humboldt. Bode Bugle 4/10/1936
