Mrs. Mollie Espeland, wife of L.J. Espeland, died at her home in Butler, SD Friday, May 8, 1914 after a sickness of but three weeks with pneumonia.
She was born in Norway in 1868 and came to America with her mother, one sister and two brothers in 1884 and located in Bode, where she was married to L.J. Espeland in 1892. To this union eight children were born, the oldest being 21 and the youngest 2 years old.
In 1904 they moved to Butler, SD where they have since made their home.
Besides her husband and eight children she leaves two brothers, MO Monson of Bode and Lars Monson of Thompson, IA and one sister Miss Anna Monson of Thompson, IA.
The body was brought to Bode and funeral services were held in St Olaf's Church with burial in the Lutheran Cemetery east of Bode. SOURCE: 15 May 1914
