Mayme Gladys Pooch Scott 1900 - 2001

Funeral service for Mayme Gladys Scott, 100, was held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the United Methodist Church at Livermore with the Rev. Dale Reisner officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery at Livermore with the Harris Funeral Home of Livermore in charge of arrangements.

Casket bearers were Tim Thien, Gerry Rowland, Allan Nelson and Dennis Behounek.

Mayme Gladys Pooch, daughter of Charles and Anna Pooch, was born in Cresco Township of Kossuth County, IA on Sept. 21, 1900. She graduated from Livermore High School in 1919.

Mayme began working at the local telephone company as a teenager in high school and continued to work there into the 1930s. She was at the switchboard Nov. 11, 1918, when news of the end of WWI was relayed to Livermore. Mayme let the town know with party line rings.

March 20, 1920, she was married to Norman Scott. The couple spent most of their married life in the Livermore area. They owned Scott Produce at the time of Norman's death in 1969.

Over the years, Mayme was the Livermore correspondent for several area newspapers. Of all the jobs she held, Mayme always said she like being a waitress best, especially at the Thursday night dances at the Livermore Ballroom.

Music was always a part of her life. As a child she learned to play the harmonica and ws still able to play Redwing on her 90th birthday. Dancing was a another favorite and she also danced on her 90th. Mayme loved to play cards from childhood on, until she became a resident of Methodist Manor at Storm lake in 1997. She ws also not averse to wagering a nickel or two on cards or at a casino.

Mayme Scott is survived by two sons, a daughter and their spouses; Cecil and Bernice Scott, Tucson, AZ; Gordon and Jean Scott, Chillicothe, MO (recently of Storm Lake, IA) and Mary Anne and Robert Reavis, Yerington, NV. there are eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three sisters and five brothers.
