Mrs. Thomas Sawyer:
Julia Amanda Bergeson was born in La Salle County, Illinois, July 15, 1869, a daughter of Ole and Augusta Bergeson. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Church of Leland, Ill., in 1883. In 1892 she was united in marriage to Thomas Sawyer of La Salle, Ill. They settled on a farm near Humboldt, Iowa, after which they moved into Humboldt, and later to Dakota City, Iowa, where they have resided for 46 years. To this union nine children were born.Mrs. Sawyer was a lifetime member of the First Lutheran Church of Humboldt and of the Lutheran Aid Society.
Mr. and Mrs. Sawyer, had she lived, would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary March 10, 1952.
In May, 1951, she began to fail in health and declined steadily until she was called to eternal rest Jan. 5, 1952, at the age of 82 years, 5 months, and 20 days. In addition to her husband, she is survived by eight children: Truman Sawyer and Mrs. B. J. Hagen of Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Clarence Watson of Huntington Park, Calif.; Harold Sawyer of Dakota City; Justin Sawyer and Mrs. J. M. Strom of Fort Dodge; Mrs. Glenn Rowell and Don R. Sawyer of South Gate, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. R. Hanson of Linn Grove, and Mrs. W. Nelson of Estherville; one brother, Ed Bergeson, of Swea City; 18 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth.
Services were held at the First Lutheran Church in Humboldt at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, with Rev. F. T. Lokensgard officiating. Sacred selections were sung by Mrs. F. T. Lokensgard with Mrs. D. P. Jensen as accompanist. Pallbearers were R. A. Skaagstad, Harry Strong, M. A. Wallukait, C. J. Torkelson, Herbert Ulrich and Ray Wogen. Interment was made in Union cemetery.
