OBITUARY.
At his residence, in Hardy, Ia, April 7th, 1886, Rev. Abner G. Stevenson, aged, 64 years, 2 months and 2 days.

The deceased was born in Fairfield Co., Ohio, February 5th, 1822, and with his parents, when but a child, moved to Indiana and settled where South Bend now stands and assisted his father to clear away the native oaks to as to have a place to that great city.

In 1837 he removed to Illinois and subsequently in 1854 to Iowa, thence to Humboldt county over 18 years ago, since which time he has been an honorable and honored citizen. In 1838 he sought and found the Savior at a quarterly meeting held at his father’s house and at once joined the Methodist Episcopal church and continued a member thereof from that time to the time of his death. Remarkable activity characterized his entire life, especially is this especially true of his religious life.

His life stands in marked contrast with thousands of others of its ceaseless activities in "every good word and work" as well as its unswerving fidelity to the church. His vacant seat meant that he was either sick himself or was bending over tbe sick bed of someone else. He never grew too old for the Sunday School. For more than eighteen years there has hardly been a home in the vicinity of Hardy which has been the scene of suffering and sorrow where his ministries have not alleviated the suffering and comforted the crying. His presence in any home under any circumstances was a benediction. The stranger he sought out and was among the first to extend a cordial welcome.

The preacher found him a true unvarying friend and though life was a struggle yet he was never too poor to cast his mite into the treasury of the Lord.

Through the long and weary months of illness Brother Stevenson was patient; died in peace and is now at rest.

[Abner Stevenson was a Civil War veteran and served with the 38th Iowa Infantry, Co. D.]
