Dr. W.R. Saxby of this place died Tuesday, July 30, 1918. The funeral was held in the Presbyterian Church; services conducted by Rev. Worden, who gave one of the best and most impressive funeral sermons the congregation has heard for a long time.

Dr. Saxby was born August 31, 1846, in Winnebago County, Ill. on a farm near Rockford, when a small boy, moved with his parents to Wisconsin, where they resided for a number of years. The early part of his life was spent on a farm. When 19 years old he enlisted and served in the Civil War [Co. E, 46th Ill. Infantry]. In 1867 was united in marriage to Miss Cornelia Klingman, who passed away about five years ago. In 1879 he moved with his family to Iowa; 39 years of this time he resided in and near Gilmore City, residing on a farm two miles north of town for a number of years. He has been a practicing Veterinary Surgeon for over forty years. Four sons and two daughters remain to mourn his loss. They are Mrs. Nellie Marshall, Terrill; and Mrs. Frank Judd, Gilmore City; Dick Saxby of Terrill and Elmer, Russell and A. Saxby, of this place; the brothers, Miles S. & C.M. Saxby reside in Freeport, Ill, the sisters are Mrs. Emily Long of Chicago; Mrs. A.A. Curtis, Freeport, Ill, and Mrs. Margaret Marquart, of Mandon, N.D.
The family wish to extend their sincere thanks to the friends and neighbors who so kindly gave of their aid and sympathy during the illness and death of Dr. W.R. Saxby. Unknown Newspaper
