7-4-1912SYLVESTER L. STEVENSON.
Sylvester L. Stevenson was born in Indiana June 22, 1835. He moved with the family to Boons county Illinois. when four years of age. He joined the Methodist Episcopal church when 12 years old, and was a member of the First M.E. church of Humboldt at the time of his death.Mr. Stevenson enlisted in Company B 95th Regiment Illinois Infantry at Rockford, Ill. He served three years and 17 days and was honorably discharged at the close of the war. Was married to Adalaide Smith November 20, 1867 at Belvedere, Illinois. Moved to Humboldt county, Iowa, in the spring of 1879. He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. C. Sample at Flandreau, S. D., June 27, 1912, where he was on a visit. At the time of his death he was 77 years and 5 days old. He leaves two sons, two daughters, nine grandchildren, three sisters and one brother. His wife passed away eight years ago.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at three o'clock at the M. E. church in Humboldt, with service by Rev. W. E. Blackatock, and the burial took place In Union cemetery with burial service by the G. A. R. Post of Humboldt, assisted by Pastor Blackstock.
