8-2-1906Capt. William Warner a well known resident of this place [Gilmore City] died very suddenly at 6 o'clock Tuesday evening, at the home of his son Wm. Warner. He had been about town as usual all day and ate a very hearty supper and shortly afterwards was taken sick. A physician was called, medicine administered, but he passed away in about a half an hour. We are sorry to be called upon to give this news as when one met Cap as he was familiarly known, he was sure of a good hearty hand shake, and one that makes one feel like there is something to live for. Capt. Warner was a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting at Hampshire, Illinois. August 7, 1862, for three years. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church Friday afternoon, and Interment made in Marble Valley Cemetery [Gilmore City]. Relatives of deceased have the sympathy of the entire community.
