Friends Shocked by Man’s Death---Rutland News
Rutland, Iowa, June 17 The death of Mikolay Dziewanowski, comes as a shock to his many friends and neighbors here. It was not known that he was even in failing health. Following is the account as written by the Des Moines Register:Funeral services were held in Humboldt Sunday for Mikolay Dziewanowski, civil war veteran, who died Friday at Nora Springs. Born in 1843 at Pulaski, Wis., he was descended from Count and Countess Dziewanowski of Poland.
His father, after serving as a major during the Polish revolution, was banished with 400 others to
America. The banished nobleman established his home in Pulaski, Wis.Mikolay Dziewanowski enlisted in the sixth battery of the Wisconsin light artillery during the civil war, and was wounded at the battle of Vicksburg. He was first married in 1872 to Elizabeth Wood taking his wedding trip by horseback, a distance of twenty-five miles. She died in 1883.
In 1895, he was married to Mrs. W. H. Booth at Emmetsburg, locating at Rutland. She died in 1924 and the following year he was again married to Mrs. Carrie Bishop of Nora Springs, who survives him. He also, leaves a
daughter and a son.
