Obituary
William H. Davenport was born Sept 9, 1843, at Schuming county, N. Y., and died at Rutland December 16 [1928]. He moved with, his parents in 1852 to DeKalb county, Ill. He enlisted in the United States army, Aug. 13, 1862. He served until the close of the war receiving an honorable discharge June 7,1865.In 1866 he was married to Sarah F. Dodd. To them five children were born, Wesley of Rutland, Hattie of North Dakota, now deceased, Effie of Centralia, Wash., Roscoe of Cogswell, N. D., Naomi of Waycross, Ga. In 1876 he lost his wife.
In 1880, he moved to Iowa. He lived in Humboldt county all the time excepting six months he spent in Colorado. In 1886, he married Mary A. (De Groote, widow of James) Oxborrow, who survives him at the time of his death. Some forty years ago he was converted in the Baptist church and he has never lost his faith, always trying to make things better for himself and those around him. He has been confined to his home about three years because of ill health.
Besides his wife and own children he is survived by three step-sons, sixteen grandchildren and one brother and one sister.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church at Rutland last Wednesday afternoon at two o’clock. Rev. Thomas Lutman of Humboldt officiated. Burial was made in Union Cemetery.
