Humboldt Independent, Humboldt, Iowa, June 1956
Mrs. Anna Kristine Sorensen, daughter of Nels and Katherine Sondergaard, was born at Frifelt in southern Jutland, Denmark, May 29, 1890. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church in Denmark. She was from a family of eight children, all of whom have died with the exception of one brother in Denmark and one sister in Humboldt.
In 1907, at the age of 17, she emigrated to the United States, coming directly to Humboldt.
On June 9, 1909, she was united in marriage to Peter A. Sorensen. To this union four children were born all of whom survive their mother.
Following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Sorensen made their home in Humboldt while Mr. Sorensen was engaged in contract tiling. After they had been married but a couple of years they rented a farm. They farmed continuously in Humboldt County from 1911 to 1943 with the exception of the year 1920 when they farmed in Minnesota. In 1943 the Sorensens left the farm and moved into Humboldt. They moved into their present home at 315 Sumner Avenue about three years ago.
Mrs. Sorensen, together with her husband, was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Humboldt. She was also a charter member of the Dorcas Ladies Aid. Mrs. Sorensen was an active and interested member of the church and a diligent worker at the Ladies Aid. The Sorensen home was always open to visiting pastors, missionaries and other workers in the church.
Mrs. Sorensen was afflicted with the dreaded disease, cancer. It began to affect her as long as three years ago; but it was not until last fall that it was discovered that she definitely had internal cancer. An operation was performed in an attempt to arrest its progress but it was already too late to effect a cure. From that time on she failed quite rapidly until the end came not at all unexpectedly Sunday evening, July 15, at 9:45 when she had reached the age of 66 years, one month and 17 days.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband, Peter A. Sorensen; their four children, Mrs. Harold Larsen of Humboldt; Miss Kathryn Sorensen of Humboldt, who teaches school in Algona; Mrs. Paul E. Grave of Emmetburg, and Royal Sorensen of Fort Dodge. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Jens Jacobsen of Humboldt; one brother, Nels Sondergaard in Denmark, and other relatives and friends.
