Lockie- At his home near Maple Leaf Oct. 13th, Robert Lockie, aged 87 years 2 months and 4 days.
Was born in Mofat, Scotland, August 9, 1808 and came to America in 1849, lived in Pennsylvania two years and then removed to Illinois where he lived six years. He then came to Iowa in 1857 and settled in Howard County on the farm where he died. When quite a young man he became a member of the Presbyterian Church of Dumfriesshire, Scotland and since moving to America has been a member of different Presbyterian churches. He leaves a wife, four sons and four daughters, thirty-eight grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren to mourn his loss.

How sweet his silent slumber

How still the hand of death

We heard not sigh nor murmur

As we watched his ceasing breath.

Why should we wish him back again

Who suffered so much pain

We know his presence which we loved

We ne'er can have again.

Robert Lockie, one of the early settlers in the town of Howard, near Maple Leaf, died recently and was laid to rest in the cemetery at Elma. We are without data as to his age or other matters.

Transcriber’s Note: He is buried in Howard Cemetery and their records show he was born August 9, 1808 and died October 13, 1895.
