Margaret McLean was born in Scotland near Glasgow, May 17, 1820 and passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. W.H. Dinger, near Maple Leaf, Iowa, July 17, 1906, at the age of 86 years and 2 months.
She was married to Robert Lockie in Scotland in 1844 where they lived five years, then coming to Philadelphia where they lived one year, then coming to Dundee, Ill. in 1850 and in 1853 they came to Iowa and settled on a farm near Maple Leaf, on which place they resided until the death of her husband in 1895.
Twelve children were born to them, eight of whom are still living, four sons and four daughters, together with forty-four grandchildren, forty-seven great-grandchildren two great-great-grandchildren, to mourn her loss. The children are Mrs. James Young, Hope, N. Dak., Robert Lockie, McIntire, Jas. Lockie, Riceville, Mrs. A.J. McDonald, Lewiston, Mont., George Lockie, Colville, Wash., William Lockie and Mrs. Frank Fuller, Oakes, N. Dak., and Mrs. W. H. Dinger of Maple Leaf
She became a member of the Presbyterian church in Scotland and reunited with the same church at Dundee, Ill. Deceased was a strong believer in the life to come and was a kind and loving mother. Her last days were full of suffering and pain but she bore herself uncomplainingly and passed away peacefully and with a consciousness of having well performed the duties and responsibilities that came to her in life.
The funeral was held from the residence on Thursday afternoon. Rev. Lewis of the Baptist Church of Riceville conducting the services. Interrment in the cemetery of Elma.Elma paper
