OBITUARY.
Flaherty.
Bridget Conry was born at Richmond, Va., Sept. 24, 1840, and died Dec. 22, 1917, being 77 years, 2 months and 28 days old. She received her education in Baltimore and came to Iowa with her parents in 1854, at the age of 14 years. In 1860 she was married to Michael Flaherty. A large family was born to this union, most of whom are living.
Her husband died in June, 1894, and although 23 years ago most of the old settlers of Howard county remember the name of Michael Flaherty, as he was an early pioneer and a man of winning character and of remarkable hospitality for everyone he happened to meet. Mrs. Flaherty spent her last years on the old homestead with her son Frank, but about a week before her death when her health began to fail she demanded that she be taken to the home of her daughter Mrs. Pat Smith near Lawler where she might receive the care and attention her age and condition desired, but as her allotted time had arrived no kindness or medical aid had any influence on the reaper of time. Her remains were returned to her old home near Lourdes to be prepared for burial where a very large number of friends accompanied her to her last resting place in Oour{sic} Lady of Lourdes cemetery. Father Hogan officiated and in his funeral sermon he paid her a high tribute of respect as one of the sturdy pioneers of early days that helped to convert the prairies of Iowa into the most fertile garden of the west. The children left to mourn her death are John of Lourdes, James and Mrs. Henry Stultz of Vancouver Canada, Thomas of Minneapolis, Clem of Washington and Mrs. john Seerey of New Hampton.
We will miss our dear old mother on each coming Christmas eve and we’ll not forget the blessing at this time her presence gave.
Now we bow to heaven’s calling and the Judge that reigns on high, all we ask is guide our footsteps till we meet her bye and bye.
We wish to express our deepest gratitude to the neighbors and friends for their kind words and actions and generous assistance during the sickness and death of our dear mother.
The Family.
