Sandra G. Brandau, 83, of Cresco, IA, formerly of LeRoy, MN, crossed over peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at her home with family by her side.

Sandra Glee Kallestad was born June 1, 1940 in Buffalo Center, IA to Ervin and Edith (Donhough) Kallestad. She lived in Thompson, IA until the age of 12 when her family moved to Lime Springs, IA. Sandra was an excellent student and a very talented basketball player. She strived to do well in school in order to make her parents proud. Her good grades earned her the title of Salutatorian when she graduated high school. Although Sandra moved a few different times throughout her life, the acreage outside of LeRoy was the place she would forever consider “home.”

Sandra was a hard worker with a long career at IBM. She took great pride in her home & yard and strove to keep both immaculate. She left an impression on everyone she met. Sandra was a gracious hostess and welcomed everyone into her home, making them feel like they belonged. Known for her perfect hair and makeup, Sandra was a beautiful woman, inside and out, who had a heart of gold. She was always putting others before herself, but when she occasionally enjoyed a treat, it was something as simple as a pastry with a cup of coffee or, her favorite, a strawberry milkshake from A&W. Sandra would always try to find the good in people. She was a saint, the best of the best.

As a woman of strong faith, Sandra was completely at peace during her final days. She knew that no matter what, she would be alright. Her family takes comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her loved ones on the other side.

Sandra is survived by her children Naomi Brandau of Spring Valley, MN, Holly (Joe) Mooney of Lone Tree, IA and Troy Brandau of Cresco, IA, grandchildren Justin Brandau, Brian (Loralei) Brandau, Autumn Horsman, Dalton Brandau, Dylan Brandau and Autumn Brandau, great-grandchildren Cora, Kane, Avery Anne, Rayna and one on the way, siblings Marlys Swenson of Rake, IA, Judy Lodin of Thompson, IA, Verlie Hagenson of Escondido, CA and Mark “Butch” Kallestad of Rochester, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sons Todd Brandau and Timothy “Marlon” Brandau, husband of 50 years Jerry Brandau and brother Jay Kallestad.

Funeral services for Sandra will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at LeRoy Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Herman Bakker officiating. She will be laid to rest at Chester Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 6th at the church and will continue from 12-1 p.m. on Friday prior to the service.
