Sudden Death of George Brown.
Our people were startled last Friday afternoon to hear of the death that morning of George H. Brown, who resided on his farm one mile east of the city. It appears that he commenced work about his barn at about 8:30, and some time later went to the house for a broom which was the last time he was seen alive. It was thought that he had gone to the cornfield with his son and hired man, and when they came in for dinner, Mr. Brown’s absence was investigated and he was found dead in the barn and from all indications had been suddenly stricken with apoplexy while driving a nail, the nail being partially driven and the hammer lying on the floor beside him.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the home conducted by Rev. Bockoven. The interment was in Oak Lawn where he was buried with the ritualistic ceremonies of the Woodmen of the World, he being a charter member of the local camp in whose activities he always took a lively interest.
Mr. Brown was a man of whom it can be truthfully said that he was an honest and upright citizen, a good neighbor and a kind husband and father.
