Joseph Simerson, a veteran of the civil war, died Sunday night at the Soldiers Home at Marshalltown, to which place he went from Cresco a few weeks ago. The remains were brought to Cresco for burial and the funeral was held Wednesday morning at the Meverden undertaking rooms in charge of the G. A. R. Mr. Simerson’s sole surviving relatives are two brothers. One from Osage and one from Chickasaw county, both of whom were present at the funeral.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born in 1840 and is buried in Oak Lawn Cemetery.
