OBITUARY
HEROLD.
Regina Steinmetz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Steinmetz, was born at Spillville, Iowa, May 5, 1858, and died at her home in Cresco, Aug. 9, 1917, aged 59 years, 3 months and 4 days. She was reared to womanhood at Spillville where at St. Wencelaus{sic} Church, on Sept. 5, 1876, she was united in marriage to Phillip M. Herold, Father Mikoda officiating. They went to housekeeping on a farm near this place and six months thereafter, they moved on their present homestead, the farm seven miles south of Cresco. This union was blessed with 8 boys and 6 girls, Mrs. Sophia Meyer of Cresco, Philip J. of Spillville, Frank Joseph of Cresco, Albert D. of Cresco, Carl Edward who is on the old homestead; Clara at home, Henry L. of Cresco, Wm. M. of New Hampton, Ia., Andrew P. of Cresco, Mary A. of Cresco, Louise K. who died 4th of Sept. 1916, Anna B., John L. and Agnes P. at home.
She was a devoted member of the Altar Society, Sacred Heart League, and Rosary Society of St. Joseph’s Catholic of Cresco.
Mrs. Herold was a woman who always worked hard for her family and was a very devoted member of her church, never had any complaint to offer, kind and loving to all relatives and friends.
On the morning of her death, she got up early to prepare breakfast for one of her daughters who expected to attend the Young Ladies Retreat at Mt. Carmelite Convent at Mankato, Minn. Feeling a little tired, she thought she would lie down for a rest when her husband noticed her breathing very heavily, but did not utter a word. Mr. Herold saw she was dying and called his family, saying that their mother had suddenly passed away. A doctor was called who pronounced it heart failure. She never complained of any illness to any of her family.
Burial was held on Monday morning, Aug. 13th at 9:30 o’clock at St. Joseph’s Church, Rev. Father Wagener singing the requiem mass and preaching a very impressive sermon on the marriage life of a christian family which brought many tears to the parishioners who had occasion to attend. Was buried in St. Joseph’s cemetery.
Relatives from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Michael Herold, Pierz, Minn., Bernard Herold, Lewiston, Neb., Edward Herold, of Seneca, Kansas, Mr. nd Mrs. John Herold and family, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Frey and family, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Frey and family, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Frey and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Neuser and family of Spillville, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Brookner and family, Mr. and Mrs. Trumman Brookner, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Mikesh of Calmar and many friends. She was survived by her husband and 13e children and 19 grandchildren, five brothers and three sisters
Mr. and Mrs. Herold resided on the old homestead for over 30 years, they moved ot Cresco in the year 1908, where they have since resided.
