Stewart Wilson was born in St. Lawrence county, New York May 20, 1846. His parents were both natives of Ireland. He spent his boyhood days in New York and accompanied his parents to Wisconsin, settling in Dane county. He was educated in the rural schools of New York and also attended a select school.

In 1865 Mr. Wilson when nineteen years of age purchased a fifty acre tract of land in Wisconsin on which he lived until 1872.

On the 25th of September, 1872, Mr. Wilson was united in marriage to Miss Mary Wilson of Fon Du Lac Wis. To this union were born two children -- Frank Wilson, of Cresco, and Nellie, Mrs. J. B. Rostratter of Minneapolis.

In 1872 he with his wife came to Howard county and resided on a farm in New Oregon twp. until 1903 when they came to Cresco to enjoy a well deserved retirement.

Mr. Wilson was a kind and loving father and friend always willing to help and do all he could for others. He was very prominent, holding several minor trusts of honor both in his home district as well as in the city.

He leaves to mourn his death his devoted wife, his two children, a brother John Wilson of Cresco and six grandchildren.
