EATON.
Mrs. Mary Helen Obert Eaton was born Feb. 1st, 1841, near Republic, Seneca county, Ohio, and died on May 3rd, 1916 at Chester, Ia., her old home at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 3 days.
She was married to Artemus Wells Eaton on April 18th, 1867. She was patient and cheerful all through her sickness which lasted for three years and four months.
She was a good wife and a loving mother to her children, a kind and obliging neighbor, ever ready with her deeds of kindness and helpful ways to do good in time of need of any kind.
She bore into this world nine children, six of whom are living and married into good, respectable homes and are a worthy family of sons and daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Eaton.
She leaves to mourn her departure from this earthly life and home, her husband, three sons and three daughters and eighteen grandchildren, also one brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Obert of York, N. D.
Mrs. Eaton came to Iowa with her parents in the early history of the state, and has shared both the pleasures and hardships of early pioneer life. She has met with earthly losses by way of the death of her little treasures of earth, and while she herself never had made any open profession of Christianity she has always recognized God as the ever ruling governor of earth and heaven, and always at least respected the cause and those who did profess the cause openly.
Mrs. Eaton will be greatly missed in and around her old home, Chester, where she has resided for over fifty-five years. She was highly respected and loved by all her relatives and old home acquaintances. Long may the memory of the departed live. A good woman has gone to her long home. May it be a home of great bliss and joy.
A short service was conducted at the home, the main service being held in the M. E Church in Chester, by the Pastor, Rev. John C. Olson. Interment in the Chester cemetery.
