John Noonan was born in County Galway, Ireland, in 1835.
He came to America at the age of 21 and located at Washington, D. C. On October 25, 1862, he married Bridget Donahue and they moved to Howard County, Iowa, in the spring of 1866, and located on a farm east of here where they made their home until about eleven years ago when they moved to Elma. Mr. Noonan had been in poor health for the past year, and the end came at the home of his son Dan in Elma on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, November 25, 1915. The funeral was held Saturday from the Immaculate Conception Church in Elma and was attended by a large number of friends who came to pay their last respects to an upright citizen, generous neighbor, and kind friend.
Mr. Noonan was one of the pioneers of Howard County and in his quiet way made many lasting friendships. He leaves to mourn his loss six sons, Pat, Tom, Dan, John, Jim and Will.—Elma New Era.
