Cresco Pays Its First Toll in the War. Relatives of the deceased who reside in Cresco received the sad news of the death of Frank Foster who was killed in the attack on Vimy Ridge at the front in France, we believe, on the 9th of April. Frank was born here in Cresco 21 years ago and his mother, who died when he was a child, was a sister of Cas. Porter, of this city. He spent the past five years]with his father, Tom Foster, at Stanley, Wisconsin, where he was graduated at the High School at that place in the Class of ’16. Shortly after graduating he went West to work in the harvest fields and drifted into Canada where he joined the 152nd Canadian Battalion, 8th Platoon, B Corps at Brandon, Manitoba. His company was permitted to make the attack upon their own request and they succeeded in routing the enemy at the cost of life of about 12,000 Canadian soldiers of which Frank was one of this number.
