Carol Melver, age 88, of Cresco, IA, passed away on October 22, 2020, at Accura HealthCare of Cresco, Iowa.

Public visitation will be held 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2020, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at New Oregon Cemetery with Pastor Charis Combs-Lay officiating.

Carol Irene Moore was born on April 04, 1932, to George and Mabel (Schoonmaker) Moore in rural Winneshiek County. When Carol was a little girl she lost her dad on March 18, 1938, and her mother and sister died in a house fire on January 07, 1943. Carol and her nephew, Lyle Borseth, were caught in the blaze but survived and spent many months in the hospital. Lyle went to live with his father in Arizona, and then Carol went to live with her sister Lillian Snyder and her brother-in-law Pete Snyder where she babysat her nieces and nephews.

Carol met her husband, Carl “Jim” Melver, one day when she went to get her car fixed. Jim and his brothers helped her fix her car. They later got married on August 08, 1953; to this union, they raised two children, son Carl “Jimmy” and daughter Ruth “Ruthie”. Carol worked as a babysitter for most of her life. At the age 50, she earned her GED and went on to become a licensed Certified Nursing Assistant. On Sundays, Carol enjoyed taking her family to visit her and Jim’s families. Carol was always putting other peoples’ needs before her own. Her family was always important to her and the reason that compelled her to work hard. Carol provided day care for many children during her lifetime. She loved caring for her pets as well.

Carol is survived by her daughter-in-law Jolene “Bruns” Melver, granddaughters Amie (Mose) Yoder, Holly (James) Bass, grandson Samuel (Ahn) Melver, great granddaughters Carol Elsner and Allie Melver, and great-great granddaughter Caladaugh Rankin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl “Jim” Melver, her children Carl and Ruth Melver, and her siblings.

Due to COVID-19, social distancing will be practiced and masks are recommended.
