OBITUARY: Howard County Times, Cresco, Iowa, April 14, 1937, P4, C1.

Lillian Charlotte Smith, daughter of Philip C. and Melissa Howe, was born in Albion township, Howard county, Iowa, March 19, 1862, and passed to the life beyond Apr. 5, 1937, at the home of her son Edwin Smith in Albion township. She was 75 years old.

On Oct. 26, 1884, she was united in marriage with Samuel Smith. To this union seven children were born. Mrs. Smith lived in the vicinity of Cresco all of her life. She was a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbor and friend. Very recently, at her own request, she received the rite of christian baptism and by faith accepted Christ as her Redeemer and friend.

She is survived by five children: Mrs. Jennie Albertson of Long Beach, Calif.; Alfred and Edwin F. Smith of Cresco; Mrs. Nellie Gooch of Lafayette, Ind., and Wesley Smith of Spillville, Iowa. Also one brother, Jesse E. Howe of Mason City. Ia., nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, together with her esteemed circle of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Smith home Thursday afternoon, April 6, the Rev. Park E. Miller, pastor of the Evangelical church, officiating. Mrs. Albert Bigalk and Mrs. John Brown sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", and "The Old Rugged Cross". Pallbearers were Dan Krueger, William Krueger, Ed Krueger, Alfred Weinkauf, Peter DeGreve and Wesley Keune. Burial was in the Albion cemetery.
