Catherine Purcell was born June 7, 1832, in Cambria County. Pennsylvania. She moved with her parents to Jennings County, Indiana, when but a few years old and there grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage to Michael Montague, Nov. 13, 1850. She and her husband then moved back to Pennsylvania and in 1855 they with their family moved to Clinton county, and in 1856 moved to Howard County which has been her home ever since. She was the mother of eleven children: Mrs. Frank Miller, of Cresco, John T., of Cresco, James P., of St. Mary’s, Kansas, Mrs. Jerry Barnes, of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Richard Boxell, of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Jerry Weakland, of Cresco, Michael, of Riceville, Joe M., of Minneapolis, Minn., Frank M., of Lourdes, Iowa, Clement M., of Riceville, Iowa, and Julia, deceased.
She was a good, Christian mother, honored and loved by all who knew her. She died February 24, 1913, after several weeks of suffering. She leaves to mourn her loss, 10 children, 32 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
Her funeral took place at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Wednesday, conducted by Rev. Father Jungerman, of Alta Vista, and the remains were laid to rest in Lourdes Cemetery, beside the husband and daughter who proceeded her in death.
