Death of Mrs. Charles Zender.
Cresco relatives received the sad intelligence, Thursday, that Mrs. Charles Zender had passed away early that morning. Although it was generally understood that Mrs. Zender was in a precarious condition, it nevertheless was a great shock to her many friends here.
Mrs. Zender had been in failing health for some time, but the morning of her fatal accident she accompanied Mr. Zender to church, returning home, he was called to the meat market on business, being absent but a short time. When he returned he found Mrs. Zender unconscious, and the house full of the odor of burning hair. He hastily wrapped her up and carried her to the home of Mr. Squire Eddy where it was found her face and hair were badly burned, the combs in her hair also being melted down into her scalp. It is not known how the deplorable accident happened, but it is thought Mrs. Zender fainted, and fell against the stove, rallying enough to again reach a chair, where Mr. Zender found her upon his return. She has been in an unconscious condition throughout her illness, once or twice showing a slightly improved condition, but not enough to warrant any hope for her recovery.
The body is expected this afternoon, but until Mr. Zender arrives it is not known what the funeral arrangements will be, other than it will probably be taken charge of by the Catholic Order of Foresters, and the Knights of Columbus, of which orders Mr. Zender is a member. The sincerest sympathy of the community goes out to the sorrowing relatives of the deceased in this the{i}r deep affliction.

GONE.
"Shall I have naught that is fair?" Have naught but the bearded grain?" So spoke the Reaper, Death, when he claimed Eva, the wife of Charles H. Zender, at the break of day, Feb. 16th.
Eva Glass, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris. Glass, was born April 18, 1885, on the Glass farm southwest of Cresco. Here she spent her childhood days and obtained her earlier education. Later on she entered the School of the Assumption and graduated in 1903. She taught in the rural schools of Howard county for a few years, and later and up to the time of her marriage clerked at Mott & Co.’s dry goods store.
On Tuesday, April 12, 1910 she became the happy bride of Chas. H. Zender. Only ten months of wedded bliss were given them when He who knows what is best chose her for His own.
Her pleasing manner, noble and upright character has won for her innumerable friends who mourn her absence.
She was ever a staunch and dutiful member of the Roman Catholic church, ever ready to comply with its graces, and breathed forth her soul strongly fortified with its last rites.
Her husband, parents, brothers and sisters mourn her going and await the call of their Divine Master when they shall all meet at His Sacred Feet. May her soul rest in peace.
The funeral was held at the Church of the Assumption, Saturday at 10 a. m., the Rev. Fathers Murtagh officiating, the Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters having charge.
