Aug. Breitspreicher passed away early Wednesday morning at his home in Cresco after an illness extending over several years. The funeral takes place on Saturday next at the Saratoga church, conducted by Rev, Pless, with interment in the Saratoga cemetery. Mr. Breitspreicher was for years a respected resident of Saratoga, moving to Cresco about a year ago. Our next issue will contain a suitable obituary of the deceased.

OBITUARY.
August John Frederick Breitsprecher was born in Province Pommern, Germany, April 11, 1850. He came to America with his parents in 1866, and resided at Read. Clayton County, Iowa. In 1871 he was united in marriage to Louise Kathryn Hackman. Sixteen children were born to the union; two of them died in infancy. In 1891 he came to Howard County, Iowa, where he lived on a farm near Saratoga for twenty years. He had been in poor health for many years, so he left the farm in April last, and came to Cresco, where he lived only nine months longer. He was called home early Wednesday morning, January 10, 1912, at the age of 61 years, 8 months and 29 days. He leaves to mourn his loss, a sorrowing wife, seven daughters and seven sons, six grandchildren, three brothers and one sister, besides a host of relatives and friends. He was a kind and loving husband and father, always cheerful, always thoughtful of others, and was loved and highly respected by all who knew him. Words cannot express how he will be missed by his deeply grieved family, and his many friends. He was laid to rest in the pretty Cemetery at Saratoga, Saturday, January 13, 1912. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Pless, of Cresco. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.Transcriber’s Note: The last name is spelled two different ways; however, his gravestone shows Breitsprecher.

Last Wednesday morning, Jan. 10th, occurred the death of August Breitsprecher of Cresco, who has been suffering from a long case of illness. It was a very severe shock to the family and every one in our community as well. He was well known and beloved by every one that knew him. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Pless and well attended taking into consideration the inclement weather and the bad roads. The remains were laid at rest in the Saratoga cemetery.
