TERRIBLE ACCIDENT IN ELMA.
On last Wednesday afternoon one of the most terrible accidents which was ever our sad duty to relate occurred in Elma. A team of horses standing at the depot, belonging to Henry Crooks, became frightened and made a mad rush up Busti avenue. They ran up as far as the Farmers Bank and when they reached the corner they turned east and Mr. Glaiser, a near by townsman, ran out hoping to stop the team. Just as they neared Mr. Glaiser the horses turned toward the sidewalk, throwing him to the ground with violent force and dragging and rolling him to a point half way between the Kelly store and the Farmers Bank. When picked up he was bleeding very severely from the eyes, ears and nose. He was carried into Gus O’Donnell's office and Dr. Molick was instantly summoned but he was already beyond human aid and died within a few minutes.
Mr. Glasier’s daughter, Miss Kate, was in town with her father and was waiting at the Chas. Keefe residence for her father to complete his trading when the deplorable accident occurred. She and her mother were immediately sent for but when they arrived the husband and father was dead. A post mortem examination was held that disclosed the fact that the skull had been crushed on one side of the head with splinters of the skull protruding from the wounds. The body of Mr. Glaiser was taken to his home north of town shortly after death occurred and the funeral was held on Saturday morning from the Immaculate Conception Church at Elma and the burial took place at Alta Vista.
Mr. Glaiser leaves a wife and six children to mourn him and they have the sincere sympathy and encourage¬ment of a Christian community of loving friends and neighbors, to whom the sad news of his untimely death was a sad blow. This paper joins in offering its sincere condolence to the bereaved family in their great sorrow.Transcriber’s Note: His last name is spelled two different ways.
