Mrs. O. H. Woods Meets Death
Mrs. O. H. Woods is dead as the result of a fall, Wednesday morning, down an elevator shaft at Zbornik Bros’ store. Mrs. Woods was doing some trading and was being waited upon by the lady clerk, who was not in a position to observe Mrs. Woods, and the others were at work out of doors, so no one can give an exact account of the affair.
The shaft is in the southeast corner of the building, protected on the west side by a substantial railing and on the north side by a large refrigerator, and near to this is the end of a counter, so to reach the open elevator shaft it was necessary for Mrs. Woods to practically go behind the counter and also walk through an opening scarcely a foot in width and about three feet in length.
Mrs. Woods’ disappearance was noted and she was found lying groaning and unconscious on the cement floor of the basement, having fallen about eight feet. Dr. Hess was summoned and the injured woman was taken to her home, where she passed away after about two hours, without regaining consciousness. Death was the result of internal injuries.
The funeral takes place to-morrow afternoon, with interment in New Oregon cemetery.
