Obituary.
Ellen Louise Barber was born in Canton, N. Y., Sept. 17, 1860, being 48 years, 3 months and 22 days old when she died Jan. 9, 1909.
At an early age “Lou” united with the M. E. church at home and lived a most exemplary, Christian life to the day of her death—bearing the intense suffering of her last sickness, as she had borne all her poor health, with uncomplaining grace and fortitude.
In 1901, in company with her brother Elton, with whom she made her home since the death of their parents, she came to Cresco, Ia., to share with him his new home in the West.
On Jan. 7, 1902, Elton was married to Miss Maud Barber. They bought a farm three miles west of town where they have lived until the present time.
This fall the farm was sold. About a month ago it became evident that Miss Lou’s health was in a precarious condition and, fearing the worst, it was thought best to transfer her to town before the general moving should commence.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Barber, parents of Mrs. Elton Barber, gave her a welcome hospitality and helped to nurse and care for the cheerful, patient sufferer to the last.Source: Twice-A-Week Plain Dealer Jan. 15, 1909, 2, C4
