Thomas Dawes passed away about 7 o’clock last Saturday evening, after a long period of invalidism. The funeral takes place this afternoon at the M.E. church in charge of the Masonic fraternity.

OBITUARY.
DAWS.
Thomas Daws was born on the 7th of May, 1838{?}, in Sussex county, England. He came to America with his parents in 1841 and settled in Jefferson county, New York. When he was six years of age they moved to Stevenson county Ill., where he lived until 1860. The last year of the Civil War he enlisted in the 46th regiment, Illinois Veteran’s Infantry, Company G, and served until the close of the war. He was a member of the G. A. R. and of the Masonic Order of Cresco.
On the 2nd of February, 1863, at Elgin, Ill., he was united in marriage to Sarah Rodgers. Ten children were born to them, five of whom died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Lathrop of Cresco, and three sons, Fred of Cresco, Frank of Seattle and Guy of Sunset Beach, Wash. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon. Rev. Gam¬ons delivered a brief address and Mr. Robt. Thomson delivered the Masonic address—the Masons attending in a body.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone shows he was born in 1837. He is buried in Oak Lawn Cemetery. His last name is spelled two different ways; however his gravestone shows Daws.
