SAD ACCIDENT--DEATH OF JOSIAH LAWS
Our pen is called upon once more to announce the death of one who is well known in this section of the country, and one of the oldest residents of Chester township, Josiah Laws, who was drowned on Friday evening last, near his residence while fording the river to get his cattle. He was either thrown or washed from the back of his horse, and the river being very much swollen by the recent rains, he sank to rise no more. His body was found the same evening about ten rods below where he parted from his horse, about two hours after he was seen to go down. Before starting in he had taken off his pants and tied them around his neck. His body was rescured by the means of poles twisted into his clothes. Always pleasant and obliging, he has made many friends, who will regret to hear of his death. His family have the sympathy of the whole community in their sad affliction. His funeral took place at his house Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and was largely attended. Rev. W. H. Brocksome officiated.
