Mrs. Jane E. Doolittle passed away yesterday morning at her home in Cresco after a long illness of several years, from which death must have come as a sweet release, we have not been advised as to the time of the funeral.

DOOLITTLE:
Jane F. Doolittle, whose maiden name was Flannagan, was born in Clare County, Ireland, September 27, 1833. Her parents came to America when she was six months old. Her youth was spent at Rutland, Vermont. She was a resident of Howard county since 1857 and for the past twenty years was a patient sufferer from paralysis. For the past ten years she was unable to walk and of late years has been confined to her bed most of the time. On Tuesday, May 9, 1905, she passed peacefully away. Her mind was active to the last and she met death with the same heroic spirit in which she bore her trials and suffering in this life. Six children survive her: Julius E. Doolittle, of Cresco, George Doolittle, of Marshalltown, la., E. Phoebe Doolittle, Elk Grove, California, May B. Doolittle, Mitchellville, Ia., Eva B. Hruska, Hillsboro, N. D, and Carrie J. Doolittle, of Cresco. For nearly twenty years her daughter Carrie ass been almost a constant companion to her administering cheerfully to her every want.
In the death of Mrs. Doolittle, another of Howard County’s pioneers has passed to the Great Beyond. She was universally respected and will be sincerely mourned by a large circle of friends and acquaintances who have known her for years and who best know her worth and character.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon at her late residence, Rev. J. A. Eakin officiating, and the remains taken to California for interment, where a sister and daughter reside, and where most of the family are turning their steps.

Transcriber’s Note: Find-a-Grave shows her maiden name spelled Flanigan; however it also shows she died March 12, 1905 (which according to the above is in error).
