Another Sudden Death.
Jay VanSlyke was found dead in his home on the south side about 1 o’clock Saturday afternoon, the body being still warm when found, indicating that death must have occurred some time during the noon hour. It was doubtless the result of heart trouble from which he has been suffering for some time. Early in the forenoon he was at the home of his father where his wife was staying and caring for her mother who is a helpless paralytic. He complained then of not feeling well. About eleven o'clock he attempted to saw some wood and asked John Jackson, who had a room in Van Slyke’s house, to saw it for him as he could not on account of a pain near his heart. He said he believed he would have to lay down, and did so after taking a strychnia tablet which he had been given to use in similar attacks which have been of frequent occurrence during the past few months. When next seen he had passed away, seemingly without a struggle.
The funeral will occur at 10 o’clock this forenoon in the M. E. church, with interment in the soldiers’ lot in Oak Lawn cemetery.Source: Twice-A-Week Plain Dealer May 12, 1905, FP, C6
