OBITUARY.
POWELL.
William H. Powell was born in the state of Kentucky in the year 1819, and died at his home in Cresco, Iowa, May 6, 1905. He was married to Miss Sarah Vance Aug. 10, 1843, who preceded him to her heavenly home about two years ago. This union was blessed with eight children, five of whom survive—Mrs. Lcinda{sic} Bartholomew, Lincoln, Minn.; Marguret Oathout, Lunana; Georgana, John and Susie Powell, Cresco. These three last mentioned were at the home and cared for him to the last.
During the dark days of the war of the Rebellion Mr. Powell enlisted as a lieutenant in Co. I, 38th Iowa, Inft., and served at the seige of Vicksburg, and at other places, until obliged to return north to save his life.
The deceased accepted the Christian religion early in life and joined a Presbyterian church. Soon after arriving in Iowa he with his wife joined the Methodist Episcopal church and lived a consistent Christian life to the end, and has gone home to his reward.
He was buried in the family lot in New Oregon cemetery.
