His Young Life Ended.
Edward B. River was born in Oak Dale township, Howard county, Iowa, Oct. 26, 1880, and departed this life in Iowa City, March 12, 1905, after a brief illness.
He came to Cresco with his parents about seven years ago, and in 1901 graduated from the Cresco high school. He then took up a course at the State Normal, Iowa City, and at the time of his death was a member of the graduating class of 1905, in the medical department of the University. Thus, at the threshold of his usefulness, his young life is cut off.
“Ted,” as he was familiarly called was one of those genial, warm heated young men who make friends with all whom they come in contact. He was one of those characters whose presence was helpful and strengthening.

Such a life, although cut off prematurely, has not been lived in vain.
Very impressive funeral services were held in the Congregational church Tuesday afternoon, March 14, conducted by Rev. Eakin, assisted by Rev. Gammons, the large auditorium of the church being filled to its fullest capacity by sympathetic and sorrowing friends; Elmer Davis, Joseph Burgess, Irvine Barker, Clarence Thomas, Cresco students at the State University, and Lee Prescott, Sioux City, room mate of deceased, occupying front seats.
The floral offerings were very profuse and exceedingly beautiful.
Following the service the remains were conveyed to their final resting place in Oaklawn.

A large company of Le Roy people went to Cresco Tuesday to attend the funeral of Edward Rivers, Jr. The party included And. Halver and wife, Alex Thomson and wife, Mrs. E. S. Garvey, Misses Stella Howe and Mary Jones, Messrs. Ervin Knight, John Peters, J. E. Peters, Will Jones and B. Thomson. Edward Rivers, Jr., son of Edward Rivers, formerly of Oak Dale, was a young man of fine character and with bright prospects for a career of success and distinction, in his chosen profession as a physician, for which he was studying at the time of this fatal attack of apendicitis.
