Dennis Shughrue was run over and killed on the railroad half a mile this side of Le Roy, Friday night or Saturday morning. We understand his body was terribly mutilated and death must have been instantaneous.

A Fatal Accident-
On Saturday morning, while Win. J. Beare was crossing the Winona tracks, at the intersection of the Milwaukee tracks, he discovered a man lying upon the ground in an unconscious condition, and frightfully mangled. Assistance was at once secured, and the unfortunate man was carried into the Milwaukee depot. Dr. Hart summoned. The poor fellow was immediately recognized as Dennis Shugrue, formerly a section hand on the Milwaukee road here, but more recently a resident of Cresco. Upon examination it was found that his left leg was cut off, right arm broken and head badly wounded. Nothing could be done to save his life, and about 8 o’clock he expired.
Investigation proved that he must have been walking along the railroad on Friday night when the 11:25 train came along, and being undoubtedly under the influence of liquor, failed to get out of the way and was struck, and must have lain where he was found until nearly 7 o’clock Saturday morning. The remains were sent to his home in Cresco, on Saturday night. Deceased leaves but one child, Mrs. Dan Gorman, of this city, for whom much sympathy is expressed.—Le Roy Independent.

Transcriber’s Note: The last name is spelled two different ways.
