MALONEY.
John Maloney of Afton township died at his home Sunday, October 17 aged 79 years the 10th of April 1904. In coming to this country from Ireland the place of his nativity he landed in New Orleans, and was a resident of the South when the war broke out and joined the confederate army in defense of the cause which he considered just and right. The Elma New Era says: In 1868 he came to Iowa and purchased property in this county and ever since has made this his home. He was never married. The only relatives he has here are three nephews, James, Pat and Mike Smith. The funeral occurred at Cecelia Tuesday. Rev. Jungeman said mass and preached the funeral sermon, paying a high tribute to the deceased, saying he was a man of the highest integrity, one who never defrauded another out of a cent. He revered the sacraments of his church and passed away feeling prepared for the future life.
