Death of Adrian Schaefer.
Friday morning, July 22, shortly after six o’clock, occurred the death of Adrian Schaefer who passed away at the home of his parents east of town, after an illness of several months from diabetes.
Adrian Schaefer, third son of Andrew and Phoebe Schaefer, was born in New Oregon township, August 16, 1879, and was therefore nearly 25 years of age at the time of his death. He has passed his entire life with his parents in this vicinity. He has always been a hard working, honest and moral young man who was always held in respect and esteem by a large circle of friends and acquaintances, the pride of his parents and dearly beloved by brothers and sisters, to all of whom the grief of final parting was most intense. The immediate relatives left to mourn are the father and mother, three brothers, A. H., Charles and Herbert, two sisters, Elzada and Ruth, and an adopted brother and sister, all whom were with him before his death.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist church, Revs. Gammons and Marshall officiating. The services at the church were very touching, appropriate music being sung by the choir of that church, and the prayer by Rev. Gammons and the address by Rev. Marshall were both full of hope and comfort to the sorrowing ones.
The four brothers of the deceased, and two cousins, John Schafer, and Will Marple acted as pall bearers. The floral tributes were profuse and unusually handsome, silent and beautiful emblems of the universal esteem in which he was held.
After the services at the church the Woodmen of the World, of which the deceased was an honored member, took charge and the loved form of their departed Sovereign was placed at rest in the New Oregon cemetery with the beautiful and impressive ceremonies of the order which he loved so well. The procession of sympathising friends who followed the loved form to its last resting place was very large, over one hundred teams being in line.Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone shows his year of birth as 1880.
