Mrs. Minnie Lomas-Simonds Dead.
Our people were inexpressibly shocked last Friday morning to hear that Mrs. Minnie Lomas-Simonds had passed away at their home at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. She had been as well as usual and the morning the news of her death arrived, a letter came from her mother, who was visiting her at the time of her death, stating that she was seemingly getting stronger. The day of her death she took a drive and entertained callers in the evening, retiring at about 9:00 o'clock, and passed away in her sleep about an hour later, with nothing but a sigh to mark the separation of spirit and body.
Minette Jean Lomas, youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Lomas, was born in Cresco, Feb. 12, 1879, and died Jan. 21, 1904, aged 24 years, 10 months, and 9 days. July 7th, 1903, she was married to Lieut. Geo. Simonds.
Deceased was educated in our public schools, and by her good qualities of heart and mind had endeared herself to a wide circle of friends and acquaintances, who deeply sympathize with the sorrowing relatives in their bereavement.
The funeral occurred Sunday afternoon at the T. J. Lomas residence, Rev. Eakin officiating, and the loved form was laid at rest In Oak Lawn.Transcriber’s Note: Her gravestone shows her birth date as Feb. 7, 1879.

Word was received Saturday that Lieut. Symond’s wife had died and would he buried at Cresco Sunday. A sad ending to a short, happy married life. They were only married last July. Rev. Hall attended the funeral at Cresco yesterday.
