John F. Hess Commits Suicide.
Just as we go to press we are informed that John F. Hess, a brother of the Hess brothers of Cresco, and a former Cresco resident, had shot and killed himself at LeRoy, to which place he removed about a year ago. He was found dead in his shop about 1:00 o’clock yesterday afternoon. He left a brief note saying that he was tired of living as he could not support his family with his earnings. Hess has also conducted restaurants at Elma and Riceville. His remains will be brought to Cresco for burial.

Last Thursday John F. Hess, a mechanic in Leroy, Minn., was found by his work bench, in his shop dead. A revolver lying close by and a wound in the head partly told a story. A note lying on the work bench told the rest. He was tired, discouraged, and took the cowardly road to relief, leaving a wife and seven children to carry the burden.

Transcriber's Note: New Oregon Cemetery records show he was born October 5, 1857 and died January 21, 1904.
