OBITUARY.
Mrs. Applonia Dotzler was born in Beiern, Germany, July, 6, 1820 and died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Rathert, near Bonair, la. December 22, 1903, at 3 p. m. Funeral services were held at the German Catholic church at Cresco, Dec. 26th at 10 a. m.
When the{y} came to America in 1846, she went to Milwaukee and was united in marriage to Mr. John Dotzler in the same year at that place. Their union was blessed with nine children, three of whom died in infancy and the remaining six still living to mourn her death are: Stephen Dotzler and Mrs. John Rathert, of Bonair, Iowa; John Dotzler, of South Germantown, Wls.; Mrs. John Drier and Mrs. Ernest Geirke, of Billings, Mo. and Mrs. Joseph Lickteig, of Indianola, la.
Mr. and Mrs. Dotzler first settled in Milwaukee and at the end of 11 years moved to south Germantown, Wis , where they resided until 1877, when they came to Howard Co., Ia. and made their home on a farm 1-1/2 miles south of Bonair, where they lived until August, 1888 when their home was broken up by the death of Mr. Dotzler.
Since that time Mrs. Dotzler has made her home with her children in whose homes she was gladly welcomed, each striving to make her contented and happy. In failing health, she came to her daughter, Mrs. Rathert, about 18 months ago.
Her fatal malady was a cancerous tumor and only those who attended her can realize how she suffered. All that medical aid and a loving daughter could do to relieve her was of little avail, and although her suffering was intense and long she was patient, thoughtful and cheerful, and even jolly at times, as long as she was conscious.
She was a lifelong, consistent member of the church—kind and loving in all her ways.
Of her children Mrs. Rathert, Mrs. Lickteig, John and Stephen Dotzler were with her in her last illness and present at her funeral.
Mrs. Dotzler will be greatly missed by 22 grandchildren by whom she was loved.Oh! weep not for mother, sweet mother above,
Around her are gathered God’s Angels of Love;
Safe, safe in yon Heaven, where all is so fair
Our mother, our dear darling mother is there,No more shall she suffer, for all this is past,
No pestilence there spreads its wings to the blast,
No cord of affection is severed in twain.
No flower lies bleeding and dying in pain.She lives and rejoices in beauty so bright,
Could mortals behold her ‘twould dazzle their sight;
She lives and rejoices, Oh! shed not a tear,
Though mother, dear mother, no longer is here.No longer in body and yet she will come
On pinions of light to her dear earthly home;
And whispers of peace and happiness given
To our loving mother forever in Heaven.CARD OF THANKS
