OBITUARY.
BARNES.
Died at her home in Cresco, Iowa, June 13, 1903, Florence Mary, wife of E. J. Barnes, aged 34 years, 8 months and 10 days.
Thus, again, the shadows of death have fallen dark and heavy athwart the threshold of a happy home. They have rested upon the head of one who in the flush of young womanhood, had many years of life to live for. They have deprived a heartbroken husband of a loving wife and left four little children without the loving care of a mother.
The sad news of the sudden death of Mrs. Barnes was received with mingled surprise and heartfelt sympathy by the entire community. While relatives and friends mourn her departure, the eye of faith beholds her radient{sic} among the pure spirits that have gone before.
Flora, the second daughter of Edwin and Mary Chapel, was born in Pescadero, California, Sept. 27, 1868. She moved with her parents to Cresco in the spring of 1886. On Nov 19, 1891, she was married to Edgar J. Barnes, by Rev. F. M. Coleman. Six children were born to them, Claribel aged nine years; Wilma, aged seven years; Orson, aged five years; Gertrude, aged three years; two children dying in infancy.
She was a loving wife and mother and leaves to mourn her loss a husband, children, father and mother and two sisters: Cora, of Cresco, and Mrs. E. W. Johnson, of Elk River, Minn.; three sisters and one brother having preceded her to the better land.
Funeral services were held Monday after noon at the M. E. church, conducted by Rev. John Gammons, and the mortal part was laid at rest in Oak Lawn.

"One by one, earth's ties are broken.
As we see our love decay,
And the hopes so fondly cherished,
Brighten, but to pass away.
One, by one. our hopes grow brighter.
As we near the shining shore,
For we know across the river
Wait the loved ones gone before.”
