Sam C. Ballard,
eldest brother of Mrs. F. J. Mead, died at St. Mary’s Hospital, Columbus, Nebraska, June 7,1903, in the 54 year of his age.
Deceased was born in Warren county, Pennsylvania, and came to Iowa with his parents in the early days of Cresco, where he resided until after the death of his parents, when he removed to Akron, Neb. He was married to Miss Nellie Russell in this city, who died shortly after their removal to Nebraska. After her death he remarried and three children are left fatherless through his death.
Several months ago he went to the hospital at St. Mary’s in Columbus for treatment for cancer, but without benefit. About two yers ago he visited in Cresco for a few days, then in the apparent enjoyment of perfect health and vigorous manhood. He was an honest, industrious, hard working man, a good law-abiding citizen, a companionable friend and neighbor.
Peace to his ashes, reverence and honor to his memory and to his virtues.Transcriber’s Note: Find-a-Grave indicates he was born August 24, 1849 and is buried in Columbus, Nebraska.
