Emeline McCulloch,
who was laid to rest In New Oregon cemetery beside her husband last Saturday was the daughter of Geo. W. and Maria Schofield and was a native of New York. She was among the first settlers in New Oregon, where Mr. McCulloch was carrying on a wagon and repair shop in 1857, when we came to the county. With the extension of the railroad to Cresco, they were among the first to cast their fortune with the new town, locating on the lot where the Baptist church occupies a portion of the ground, and in the house east from it. Of a numerous family of brothers and sisters, we think there is but one remaining, Mrs. Ralph Clark and perhaps her sister Phoebe. Of her five remaining children three reside in this county, Mr. A. C. McCulloch of Lime Springs, Mrs. Elizabeth Chapel and Mrs. Ada McArthur of Cresco, one son. Jas. T. McCulloch who resides in California, and her daughter Jennie in Washington. The funeral services were held in the M.E. church in Cresco, the Rev. S. W. Heald officiating. Large numbers of the old friends and neighbors joining to pay their last tribute of respect to one who had been a good friend and neighbor during all the years of her life in Iowa. The PLAIN DEALER unites with the friends in expresion{sic} of sorrow and sympathy for the dear departed whom we had learned to know and esteem through our acquaintance of our forty years.

Transcriber’s Note: Her last name is spelled several different ways.
