Mr. Isaac Phifer, of Chester, was taken with peritonitis Monday evening and passed away Tuesday May 1, aged 75 years. He was an old soldier, had been a resident of Chester for many years and was highly respected by all who knew him. His name was dropped from the pension roll two years or more ago and had just been restored, at $12 a month the pension to apply on what he had overdrawn as pension on previous allowance.

Transcriber’s Note: His gravestone in Chester Hill Cemetery shows he was born February 21, 1825.
